Polhena Beach is another beautiful beach situated in southern Sri Lanka. This is not very popular among foreign tourists. But it is a popular travel destination among locals.
Sri Lanka is a rich country with so many beautiful beaches around the country. But the most popular beaches are located in the southern part of the island. Hikkaduwa, Unawatuna, Mirissa, and Hiriketiya are some of the famous places in the south.
Polhena Beach Location:
The distance to Polhena from Colombo is about 160 km. But the distance from Matara is nearly 5 kilometers. Those traveling from Colombo or Galle must pass through Kaburugamuwa and Walgama villages before arriving in Matara.
After you reach the Polhena junction, turn your vehicle to the right. That will take you to the beach. There are enough spaces to park your vehicles. You can use the shops and restaurants around you to buy your essential items. You can also buy swelling kits, swimming kits, rubber tubes, and other required items from the vendors.

Matara and its surrounding area belong to the intermediate climate zone on the climate map. Annual rainfall is between 1500mm and 2500mm. Most days will be sunny throughout the year. May through September is the rainy season for the Polhena area. December through March are the best months to visit Polhena Beach. The average temperature is nearly 27 °C.

Evenings are normally busy after a long day. To assist the people, police and life protection guards have been stationed here. Keep your valuable items in a safe place in the area.
About Matara
Matara is the closest town to Polhena. It’s the second-largest city in the Southern Province of Sri Lanka. It is not only economically valuable but also historically significant. You can see ancient Dutch ruins in Matara. The city is traversed by the Nilvala River.
