Polhena Beach is another beautiful beach situated in the southern Sri Lanka. This is not much popular among foreign tourists. But it is a popular travel destination among locals.
Sri Lanka is a rich country with so many beautiful beaches around the country. But the most popular beaches are located in the southern part of the island. Hikkaduwa, Unawatuna, Mirissa and Hiriketiya are some of the famous places in the down south.
Polhena Beach Location:
Distance to Polhena from Colombo is about 160km. But the distance from Matara is nearly 5km. Those who come from Colombo or Galle side, you need to cross Kaburugamuwa and Walgama villages before the Matara Town.
After you reach to the Polhena junction, turn your vehicle into right side. That will take you into the beach. There are enough spaces to park your vehicles. You can use surrounded shops and restaurants for buying your essential things. You can also buy swelling Kits, swimming kits, rubber tubes and other required items from the vendors.
Matara and surrounded area belongs to the intermediate climate zone on the climate map. Annual rainfall is between 1500mm – 2500mm. You can expect most sunny days in the calendar year. May – September is the rainy season for the Polhena area. December to March is the best time to visit Polhena Beach. Average Temperature is nearly 27C.
Beauty of the Polhena Beach
An ideal place for swimming, snorkeling, turtle watching and coral watching. Safe beach for anyone. You can bathing with your little Childs and family members. Snorkeling is the most famous activity. You can dive into the water and watch sea turtles. But don’t expect them always. Morning is the ideal time to catch turtles.
Calm and clear water attracts many locals rather than foreigners. Holidays and weekends are very busy days at the beach. Ha-ha…. Don’t say ‘I don’t have enough space to enjoy’ in those days. Evenings are normally busy with all day. Police guard and life protection guard has also established here to help people. Keep your valuable items in a safe place in the area.
The material is the closet town to the Polhena. It’s the second major city in the Southern Province of Sri Lanka. Not only an economical valuable place, It is a historical location in the history. You can see ancient Dutch ruins in the Matara. Nilvala River is flowing through the city.
